Position Summary 

The Interventional (IR) Technologist is responsible for assisting the physician in diagnosis and treatment of interventional radiology proceduresOperates equipment and performs invasive procedures by positioning patients and preparing contrast media to perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Assist the radiologist during invasive procedures using proper sterile technique.   

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES   

  • Performs diagnostic and therapeutic interventional procedures as described in the procedure/protocol manual, consistently maintaining a high level of quality and productivity. Performs quality assurance duties. Operates all relevant equipment and computer systems, including RIS/PACS, with proficiency 

  • Assesses physician’s orders for completeness by reviewing the clinical information, pertinent laboratory results and the patient’s chart to ensure the correct procedure is performed and the proper patient preparation is administeredInterviews patients for medical history; prepares patients for exams; positions patients appropriately; selects proper radiographic exposure factors; monitors patient while scanning; reviews images for quality and abnormalities; adhere to guidelines regarding radiation protection and recordkeepingCompletes documentation and file notations; performs QC and patient tests according to protocol; works cooperatively with radiologist.  

  • Provides excellent care and service to patientsExplains exams, positioning, etc to patientsExplains procedures to patients to reduce anxiety and obtain cooperationTracks patients from exam start to discharge. Scrubs in and assist the radiologist during invasive procedures using proper sterile technique to aid in the performance of the procedure and assist in the observation of the patientDemonstrates competencies, including knowledge and behaviors, to meet age-specific patient needs (Adolescents, Adults, Geriatrics) and cultural diversity.  

  • Stocks supplies; maintain cleanliness of scan rooms and dressing roomsPerforms record keeping and data entryPerforms end of day surveys, prepare imaging room(s) for next day’s service, and organize workload for following day including appropriate requisition and authorization. Maintains knowledge of ancillary/emergency equipment that supports the practice.  

  •   Responsible for the non-technical component of the protocol process, including: ensuring that the patient is properly prepped for exams, including blood work, allergies, contraindications, etc., monitoring missing requisitions, faxing transmissions to referring MD offices to obtain missing requisitions, ensuring that the requisition is completely filled out i.e. exam, clinical and signature authorization numbers match the exam ordered and codes are correctly entered, evaluating requisitions to ensure exam requested matches the exam ordered, verify that exams have been scheduled at the proper site, time slot and day and contacting the Customer Care Center for assistance with scheduling changes as needed.  

  • Participates in various department duties and meetings necessary for patient-centered serviceCollaborates and cooperates with others in and out of the department in support of organization goals. Trains and assists new employees and staff-in-training when necessary. Provides coverage to other offices as neededMaintains professional certificationAssumes responsibility for self-development needs and obtain necessary instruction and current certifications.  

  • Performs other related duties as assigned  

  • Participates as a member of the Jefferson Radiology Team. Consistently demonstrates and promotes Jefferson Radiology Values.  

  • Ensures a professional attitude and appearance at all times. Consistently demonstrates flexibility and good judgment. Consults with co-workers and supervisor as necessary.  

  • Adheres to all Jefferson Radiology policies and procedures, including Compliance, HIPAA, OSHA, and licensing and accreditation guidelines. Reviews policy and procedure manuals on an annual basis.    

  

 

DESIRED PROFESSIONAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE   

  • Graduate of an AMA accredited Radiography program 

  • Connecticut State Radiological License 

  • BLS certification required 

  • Bachelor’s degree in science-related field, preferred. 

  • ARRT VI, advanced certification by ARRT preferred 

  • Prior work-related experience required. 

  • Experience with radiology information systems, required. 

  • Must possess excellent communication and patient care skills. 

  • Willingness to participate in professional organization (Society of Interventional Radiology)  

  

Physical Requirements of the job: Able to lift 10 lbs., and up to 25 lbs. with assistance. Frequent exposure to radiation and body fluids. 

 

The hourly range for this position is $38.00 - $48.00.
